Live 4-8 game 5-handed with the usual suspects. I'm on the button with A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG folds, next to me calls, I raise, SB folds, BB calls, next to me calls.
Flop is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. BB and next to me check, I bet, BB folds, next to me calls. Turns is 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I bet, next to me calls. River is 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I bet, next to me calls, and mucks when he sees my 8. Then I hear the chorus of, "You raised with A 8 offsuit?!?", for the next 15 minutes. Was the raise proper? Or just a call? |

This is certainly a case where raising is better than calling. When you raise, you are decreasing the probability of making a mistake. But folding is definitely the way that I would have played it.
