Re: Best albums of 2005, A to Z
I like the A-Z thing but I didnt listen to enough in 2005 to make one. Here is a partial a-z list of mainstrean and indie that I liked from 2005.
Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson Demon Days - Gorillaz From Under the Corktree - Fall Out Boy The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Stike Illinois - Sufjan Stevens LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem Plans - Death Cab for Cutie Set Yourself on Fire - Stars Twin Cinema - The New Pornographers You Could Have It So Much Better - Franz Ferdinand Z - My Morning Jacket Stuff everyone liked and I disliked... Clap your hands say yeah - CYHSY EP - Fiery Furnaces Note: I suck at music |

One More "indie" release to throw into the fray at either the E or B spot is Lou Barlow's Emoh. Really good folky singer- songwriter type stuff. Some of the best work Lou has done in ages, imho.

Re: WTF SUPER-MAINSTREAM EDITION
Yeah, the "WTF SUPER-MAINSTREAM EDITION" consists solely of albums and artists lodged firmly in the Top 200 selling albums of 2005. I think I own 3 or 4 of them.

A LOT of those are 2004. I've heard 17 of them, and most weren't that great. Of those that were: American Idiot - 2004. It'd make the list from that year though. Encore - 2004. Too many missteps to make a list, but it some tracks were solid. The Documentary - 2005. I almost put this on instead of The Go! Team. It's solid (and 50's better on this than he is on his own album) In Between Dreams - Reviewed this, and actually liked it a lot. JJ is enjoyable to listen to. That said, the clog at S meant Sufjan took over the I spot, since that was pretty empty. Hot Fuss - 2004. And weren't The Killers considered "indie" until "Mr. Brightside" hit the Top 40 radio? I'm not sure, I didn't follow them too closely. X & Y - Probably could put this on my list in the X spot, although as with U2, not sure it really deserves it. I thought it was a very disappointing effort, and I hear Coldplay has as much as admitted that pressure to put out albums has diluted their work. Lastly, mainstream country sucks more ass than mainstream pop and rock. :-D [/ QUOTE ] Yes, Killers was 2004 and in early 2004 they were Indie and Hipster and all things made fun of...great album however you want to label it. |

is MIA somebody different from M.I.A - 'cause listing that [censored] on any list would make me mad.
You could say "Murs and Slug Present Felt 2" and it would be a better option for both M and F. |

Re: Best albums of 2005, A to Z
I clearly need to start listening to more internet alternative radio. How I could have missed a band that Bowie and Chris Martin were arguing over who discovered them is beyond me. (Arcade Fire)

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I should probably get Felt on there, but I already had Atmosphere on there. And I really liked Fatlip's album. And stop hating on M.I.A. [ QUOTE ] G-Get Behind Me Satan-The White Stripes [/ QUOTE ] Good album (better than other slight missteps like Beck's Guero or Franz Ferdinand's You Could Have It So Much Better)... I could probably put it at G instead of Go! Team, I suppose. Bump because CMI hasn't posted his list yet, goddamn slacker. |
