btw i am suprised the sox did not match the yankees offer

im not in the least bit surprised. i am estatic they didnt sign him at that price.

I'm happy they didn't match as well, but I am slightly surprised. They must be sure they can get Reed or Crisp for a reasonable price.

Seeing a clean-cut Damon again will be strange.

i would love to see jeremy reed in CF next year. his UZR rating was apparently AWESOME. the cost will probably be arroyo though.

And, by the way: The NSA kind of technology is mostly useless against the low-tech threat that is Qaeda and its branches. Bear that in mind.

Im not sure how I feel about this. I dont follow baseball as closely as many in here, but my perception is that Arroyo has been very solid for the Red Sox. Is it worth getting an awesome CF to give this guy up? I have no opinion to be honest, just trying to see what the better informed think about the prospect of some deal revolving around a reed for arroyo.

IMO...it all depends.

One can easily make the case that the Sox have an excess of starting pitching after their latest signing, BUT.....it's probably much more prudent to wait for spring training to see how it all shakes out.

We really don't know yet how well Schilling is going to be able to rebound. If he rounds back into his old form, then the Sox have two legitimate #1 starters.....maybe.

That might make Arroyo expendable.

Personaly, I wouldn't want to see him go, as his stuff is excellent, and he has (IMO) a significant upside. The Sox have a history of giving up on pitchers too early.

Again....let's see what happens.

I really don't want to get rid of Arroyo. I'd rather just flip out of Beckett.

Sporting Events peeps,

OK, I tried to have some rational thought about this, and then I went and looked at his numbers.

his average was up 12 points, but obp was down 14. his hits were up, and walks were down. But, by OBP, it was his 4th best year of his career, 2nd best year in boston (only 04 was better).

Another thing, his HRs went down from 20 to 10 this past year. Damon is a lefty...surely the short porch in right will help him get back to 20 dingers, no?

Oh yeah, and don't forget to go to ESPN and vote on if you think he's a 'traitor'. LMAO.

I like Deathwish, and he has a track record with the Sox. I'd rather see Wells go for some prospects or depth, and find another way to get a strong center fielder. Bottom line is, Beckett, Schilling, Wells, Clement - there are question marks for every one of these guys to various degrees. We have a wealth of starting pitching but we could also be in the position the Yankees faced last season - with 3 or 4 guys who fail to deliver or get hurt.

I am encouraged by all the young talent we have, but I don't see any of them being ready to enter the rotation next year. Papelbon is really promising but we haven't seen him go long yet.

I think other posters are correct that waiting to deal any pitching, unless it's a really good deal, is best right now.
