This is very situation dependant. One of the reasons dealer abuse rises to throwing objects at the dealers in some areas is the dealer won't call the floor whne a player gets out of line because it costs money if it loses a hand. When a dealer chooses to ignore an abusive player to keep the game going it fosters an abusive environment and is unfair to the dealers that follow as most abusive players will continue to be more abusive until someone tells them to stop. If swearing at the dealer gets no reaction they will move on to throwing cards, if this gets no reaction they will move up to throwing racks, if this gets no reaction they will throw their drink and so on.

I agree. However, the first complaint should be about the abusive player, not the dealer. What's it going to help just to reprimand a dealer, especially if it's one of your better dealers overall in the room, while the abusive player is still sitting in the game after the dealers down? The dealer likely won't be back that night to that table so it really doesn't help the situation at the table at all. Unless the dealer deals to that table again.

In this case, pretty much all the dealers tolerated it for one reason or another. So if you're going to write one dealer up, you may as well write them all up. However, when this dealer finally said something, he did get other dealers and some regular players backing him.

Unfortunately, the unwritten rules in many casinos seems to be that you can abuse the dealers all you want, but as long as you're polite to the floor people (the guys with the power to do anything), you're okay. That attitude needs to change. There should be zero tolerance for abuse directed at anyone.
