Re: Limon\'s Essays IV
This is true and is why there is very little poker ["bluffing"] in limit and none in short handed limit.
You maybe right in your statement that there is no bluffing in short-handed games depending upon how you define bluffing. If you intend to mean betting on the river with absolutely no way of winning with the hand, you are right. There is no bluffing like that in short-limit games. However, if you mean anything else, I sincerely disagree. I have discovered there are several opportunities to bluff on the flop and the turn in short-handed limit games, sometimes to the point of bluff-raising. At least in full limit game you can sit and wait for the nuts (it aint poker but it’s profitable). In short handed, you’re forced to play cause the blinds come around so fast. The way to beat this game is to, of course, wait for good hands and make your overaggressive loose competitors pay, but like stated before this strategy will fail do to the increased frequency of the blinds. This makes your average short handed limit poker game unplayable. Short handed pot or no limit, on the other hand, are great games. I think you are way off on this one. The fundamental key to winning at full games is position which becomes less of a factor as the game becomes shorter. Position in a full game is like the placement of the cut-card in blackjack. The closer to the back, the better you have it. Essentially, I play the same hands short as I do full. The difference in how and when I play them is based upon factoring in my position in full games. I consider myself a very successful short-handed limit player. It is my main game. I have recently started playing short-handed no-limit. It is a fun game. But I have quickly learned to apply the same standards that I play in short limit games. There are a few observations that I have made in the short no-limit games that I have sat. First, there is very little value betting/raising. I think that technique is more inherent to limit games. However, when it works, it works much more effectively than in limit games. Second, there seems to be many more "any-two-cards-can-win" players in no-limit, rightfully so. I would certainly prefer to play those types of players in a limit game. Unfortunately, when they hit their hands in no-limit, they tend to hit it fairly big. However, drawing odds will always apply regardless if it is no-limit or not. |

missing the point...
everyone is saying why shorthanded limit can under certain situations be a great game. great...who cares...missing the point. all good players are winners at all forms of poker...i think. im saying itsw the worst game, not an unbeatable game. no one argues the main point which is...as the game gets shorter the types of players who will GENERALLY continue to play are those with games suited towards shorthanded. It's like agreeing to fight a big puncher in a small ring...WHY? in poker you get to choose your battles, this just isnt the one for me. oh..and i still have no respect for players who quote their idiotic on line results. I could walk into a casino blindfolded if I wanted to...i would hope someone would tell me im an idiot.

Re: i will calm down
Limon,
Why do you have such an aversion to people who play poker online? That's sort of like saying someone is a jackass simply because they play in the casino across the street rather than the one you play in. I was going to ask you if you are always this childish in your posts or if it was just a bad day, but then I looked at all your previous posts.....question irrevocably answered! I make very good money playing online and many others do as well. Isn't that what it is all about? I can and HAVE made plenty playing in casinos. However, I found that I make MORE right here at home in front of the computer. The thought that jumped out repeatedly while reading your other posts was a sense that you are trying to to be a GrannyMae copycat with all of your sarcasm. Give it up, dear limon! Unlike yours, Granny's posts showed tact and class, and at the very least his sarcasm had some intelligence behind it! Rather than being a prick all the time trying to piss people off, sit down and ask yourself why it is that you need so much attention. |
