Default Are these guys cheating?

I'm fairly new to online poker and usually play HE at the lower limit tables and tournements while I figure things out. I've started to notice that certain players ALWAYS take forever to make a call on their first two cards. It doesn't seem to be a hesitation issue as far as I can tell by what they eventually have in their hands . . . rather it shouldn't be a hesitation issue because the hand seems fairly obvious in how to play it. Also, I'm not talking about a player who's a little slower than the rest, this is when they get the little warning from the dealer that they have 13 (or 10 or whatever) seconds to respond. This happens every hand even when one or more players before them also got the 13 second warning. So by the time the bet gets to them (with no raises) in late position they've already had 45 seconds to over a minute to think about their hand.

So the question is: How likely is it that these guys are either getting coaching help (or they're thumbing through some book) or using some sort of software that helps them calculate the odds on their hand? Does such a software package exist and would it even be ethical to use one if it did?

Just curious,

Bill

nill I would say. Software is not THAT good and takes to long.

Nothing wrong with books but again - takes to long and it'll get them in the end.

Probebly somebody with poor connection (yes - there still are those people).

My guesses in order of likelihood (most to least):
1. bad connection
2. playing multiple tables/sites
3. rude and/or distracted (this includes your suggestion that the players are looking up reference material. I personally don't feel this is cheating or unethical. I do think is rude if you are holding up the game however.)
4. collusion - sharing of hole card data. I put this last because you said it was low limits and because people doing this would have to be complete idiots to draw this kind of attention to themselves.

Everyone is overlooking prop players who are getting paid by the hour and not by the hand. If I was a prop I'd take the max time every hand and hope another prop or two joined the game as well.

How long do you think you'd keep your prop job when delaying the game like that?

Is that relevant to it being a possibility?

Well yes I would think so. Don't you think this would affect the likelihood that this is the problem?

Well, it's still frustrating :-)

I was just curious because I ran across something called Online Hold 'Em Inspector that claimed (I didn't download it so I have no idea if it's true) that it could read the screen and give you all kinds of stats on any cards showing.

I kind of view that as a form of card counting in BlackJack. Fine if you can do it in your head (though, I'm sure the casinos might disagree with me on that) but if you come into the casino and prop up a laptop . . . well, you might just be cheating. :-)

Thanks for the answers, everyone!

Maybe no problem here.

Great, means they don’t know what they are doing.

Yes

Depends on whether you believe it is ethical or not. Not something I would ever bother thinking about.

It is also possible that they are playing five games at once, and some of the other games are taking up more of their attention.

They could be cheating, so could anyone. No particular reason to suspect them.
