I know of a game ($10 SNGs) in which the tournament is over when there are 3 players remaining. The player with the most chips won first prise (70% of the pool), the player with the second most chips won second prise (20% of the prize pool), and the player with the least chips won third prize (10 % of the prize pool). The point was to get to another game ASAP.
I actually don't think this is terrible. |

There is plenty of poker to be played once the 10 person tournament is reduced to 3 people. Tournaments are meant to be played to the end unless a deal is struck, it's the whole point of the contest. I would push for a straight cash game if the payout happened in this manner. |
