Re: Nominations for Best \"Rock\" Album of 2005
[ QUOTE ]
I wrote lots about how stupid this "I HAVEN'T HEARD OF THEM THEY CAN'T BE THE BEST" argument is, but it just kept going and going. So instead of writing an essay on pop culture, the history of mass media, and how one evaluates the quality of art and entertainment, I'll just insist that it's stupid. Because it is really, really [censored] stupid. In other news, [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Spoon's Gimme Fiction and New Pornographer's Twin Cinema, among many other albums listed here. Re: Nominations for Best \"Rock\" Album of 2005
I talk about indie music on here because I want people to go out and give it a listen and find stuff that they like.
I listen to indie music 'cause it's the closest thing to great pop music out there. I also fail to see how indie music can be so unpopular if MTV has a whole station dedicated to it. |

Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil (even though it is their worst album IMO) Thrice - Vheissu (also their worst album) |

Mae - Everglow [/ QUOTE ] This and the new Thrice both seem like really good albums, but I haven't listened to them very much yet. I'm still pounding away at Circa Survive after almost 7 months. Tracks 6-10 are some of the best music I've heard in a while. |

Is there some kind of newsletter distributed by the indie overlords that tells you what bands to say you like?

Re: Nominations for Best \"Rock\" Album of 2005
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Does someone want to post a song or two from Illinois to convince me to buy it? The only album by Sufjan I've spent time listening to is "A Sun Came" and I'm not a huge fan so far. [/ QUOTE ] "a sun came" isn't all that good, he was still trying to find his sound link to "Casmir Pulaski Day" this song is just awesome. [/ QUOTE ] About Sufjan. A-Sufjan is not rock, not even close. B-That Polanski day song was not a "great" song. Don't kid yourselves. It's not even particularly interesting. It is mopey, melancholy, boring. Oh, but he does sound real emotional, oh how sad. WTF? "I'm crying in the bathroom..." AHAHAHAHAHAHAH |
