Default Toutnament \"Take Outs\"

In several of the tournamnets I play the "Takeout" i.e., the amount taken by the "house" before the remaining entry fees and rebuy fees are distributed to the prize pool can be as high as 15%-20%. In others and many on-line tourneys (I haven't played any online tourneys) the takeout appears to be 10%.

In all cases the takeouts appear to be much higher than the equivalent percentage "rake" in the cash games I play in (generally 8-16 to 15-30).

The tourneys are fun but given the high takeout are they winnable in the long run?

6 or 10% are more common than 15-20, which does seem rather high. However, when comparing it to ring game rakes, remember that in a tourney it is taken out from you once. In a ring game it is taken out from you every time you win a hand. I would think the houses take on ring games is much higher than tourneys, but the tourneys bring the players in and then they get the rakes from the side games.

Are they winnable? Definitely. You wont win often in multi-tables, but when you do the multiples of the buy in you win are enough to ensure a profit if you are a good tournament player. A 2 table sit and go is the easiest money online.
