There's a much greater chance, that you're giving a free card not taking one if you check the turn. Gotta bet.

Thats a bad play because so many 3-6'ers peel to see the turn.

Let me be clear: I'm not advocated giving free cards to random 3/6-ers. Just check behind players who habitually use the check-raise/check-raise line with strong made hands if you suspect s/he has one. Next time this sort of situation arises, for example.

Also, you usually bet because you don't want to give a free card when you're ahead, but here we're probably behind, so we want a free card.
