Default Poker rooms in Florida

I'm moving to Florida in about a month and was quite happy to discover a poker room/dog track a few minutes from my soon-to-be office. Then I read over their rules and was a little displeased to discover the only limits they play are $.50-1 and $1-2 hold 'em and stud.

Has anybody played in these games? With such low limits it seems that they would just be a crapshoot, with eight or nine players to the flop every hand and whoever hits the flop with their 'any two cards' wins. Would this be a fair assessment? Any ideas how to adjust?

With such low limits (and I'm not a high limit B&M player, I normally stick to $5-10 to $10-20), I don't even know that it would be worth my time. I'm sure I could experience the same type of game online, only get more hands an hour.

Anyone have any experiences to share?

The rooms down here suck. They rake the hell out of the pot and it's a real crapshoot. That being said it is better than what is was until about a few months ago with a $10 max pot. Go on the boats or play on-line.

By the way, what part of Fl are you moving to?

Indeed, the limit's do suck!... I still play every now and then, but it is very loose. Sometimes you can find a loose/passive game and play real tight and win $100 or so.

Where are you moving? I host a home gem near Tampa where we play $2/$4 and Pot Limit Holdem with a occasional tourney...

The room at Seminole is lousy with the same limits mentioned. There is a room at the track in Bonita Beach if this is the one you mentioned.Good luck finding any decent poker 20 and above.

I live in Boca Raton. I do currently play in any real home games other than the occasional 1-2-3 with the guys from work. The tourney at the Indians are a waste. They have a set number of hands and it than they end it. The St. Tropez has No Limit Tourney's on Friday Nights. They are pretty much a crap shoot but the players are very weak. The prize pool usually gets pretty high as well. The ring games there are very loose and can be quite profitable and the players there for the most part are the types that play on Party Poker. I don't like the boat because of the time limit and the fact that I don't get home until 2am. If you have the time and your spouse doesn't mind you going then it's a good deal.

The best poker in Florida IMO is provided by my cable modem.

Unfortionate enough I have played in these rooms and it is the worst. Florida itself sucks when it comes to poker. Recently they have allowed a $200 pot limit with $1 & $2 games. Personally I like $20-40 so in order to get that action you have to find private games which there is plenty of. Also, I play on the Saint Tropez cruise ship which has low-high limit games, no limit ring games, and tournaments. The tournys are great there because they put 100% of the re-buy monies back into the pot. Stay away from the indian reservation tournaments because they take 30% of the rebuy money and they also play 40 hand tournaments, so it always comes down to who wins the last 3 hands determines the winners of the tournament. Vote against Jeb Bush, he is the one who is anti-gambling down here.

Yeah, I would have to agree with pretty much everyone else, the games are terrible in Florida IMO. Hard Rock (Tampa, old Seminole Indian Casino) has the only half way decent settings as far as limits and such.
