No i think the river check there is pretty bad

You guys are kidding right? That river check-raise was a thing of beauty. (And as my man John Keats said "A thing of beauty is a joy forever.)

Hero had showed no real fear of the three clubs, perhaps indicating Hero's holding one. Villian was representing an overpair or top set or something big enough to win unless that 4th club comes out. Villain was protecting with a turn bet, and the call could be Hero on a draw.

On the river Villain checks believing Hero has enough to bet (be it the flush, or enough to try and steal), and traps him for two bets. Awesome.

If this was the first hand at the table, you could say it was risky and questionable. I'm assuming they'd been playing for a while.

Unless this is a very specific 2nd/3rd level thinking play between two opponents familiar with each other, the better line is to bet. A lot of players will raise the Kc, maybe the Qc when led into. Then he can 3-bet. It also ensures a call from hands like JJ-KK witout a club. If any of those hands bet when checked to as a bluff, they're usually folding to the check-raise.

Risking it checking through isn't worth getting two bets from a hand that, had he bet, he'll get 3-bets from some percentage of the time anyway.

What a small sampe size could mean. I have 107 hands on him and he's 16/11 with a -20 BB/100 losing rate.

You're right. The point of that line was basically "unless he knows you won't raise the Kc", but even then, a bet is still superior due to the non-club hands checking through.

Wozzle's one of the better Prima regulars. Abnormaly tight, though.
