Trying to get a PLO game going at Lucky Chances?
I am trying to get a regular PLO game going at Lucky Chances in Colma/San Francisco. Are there any players here that are interested? If so, go down there and sign up on the board. Or call it in.
What structure should it be? I talked to the manager there and she was clueless about what the structure should be. I was thinking 2/4 blinds with a 80-min/300-max buy-in. This should be a small enough structure to sustain a decent game for quite a while but big enough to make it interesting. I heard that there used to be a regular game like 2 or 3 years ago, but it dried up. I heard it had 5/10 blinds with a big buyin. Thoughts? Bigs |

For me $300 would be a far too small for the max buy in. The live games I have played in have always been pretty deep stacked (not live Omaha) so I think you would need at least a $400 max (100bb) although I think $800 would be very nice.

Re: Trying to get a PLO game going at Lucky Chances?
I'm thinking that we need to keep the max buy-in lower so that we can keep the game going for a while. If the max is too high, that reduces the number of people willing to give the game a try. Who wants to buyin for $80 or $100 when the rest of the table has huge stacks of $800? The reason the previous game died out was that the live ones went broke so fast.

also casino management may be more open to a game with a small stack structure. the slower people go bust the more rake is paid. you might want to x-post this in b&m.

How do you cross post? I posted the same topic in B&M already but they are two separate threads. Can you do that for me as moderator?

If you add a cap (max 1 hand loss) that will keep the game going longer and make the house happier.

Who wants to buyin for $80 or $100 when the rest of the table has huge stacks of $800? [/ QUOTE ] This mindset always confuses me. Although I have heard it frequently, "I'm not going to play if some jerk is going to buyin for a bunch of money and just bully the table" In a cash game, the short stacked player has a pretty decent advantage over a large stacked player. The reason to buy in for a large stack is to cover poorly-playing large stacked opponents. Either way, most of your big PLO players are people with way too much money and too much gamble. I can't imagine many of those players being happy in a capped buyin game. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree that to have a short stack is an advantage in some regards, but most people don't want to be set in every time they see a flop (even though this is less frequent in pot limit). And the point of the game is to make it a somewhat small buyin, to keep the game going and attract players who want to learn and play the game. Myself and management aren't as concerned with attracting the big $$ players, they can always open another 3/6 hold'em game. |

Re: Trying to get a PLO game going at Lucky Chances?
Does anyone think that casino management is making a mistake if they don't allow this game to start? I think that they lose a good game that might last forever, just to cash in on the hold'em craze.
I guess they might be too lazy to educate their floor and dealers on how to run PLO. Pot-limit is a bit confusing for most of those new and old dealers, and the players will basically have to police the game themselves (regarding bet sizes). I really think this is one of those games that can run through the night and make them money during the graveyard shift. |
