Bad spot with JJ
.50/$1 NLHE Full Table
Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.50. UTG minraises to $2, Hero calls $2, 4 folds, 2 calls, 2 folds. Flop: ($9.25) 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players) UTG checks, Hero bets $7, 2 calls, UTG folds. Turn: ($29) 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero??? First calling villian is a big LAG. If he had A or K spade, he pushes the flop. If he already had a flush, he's probably pushing. He's pushed a number of times already with the nuts, with air, or with a draw, so I think he might have 9x. Second calling villian is unknown to me. I got about $70 behind and they both cover me. Comments welcome. |

Re: Bad spot with JJ
No re-raise pre-flop? That said, bet $20 on turn and plan on vakue betting a non-spade river. Obviously, fold to any aggression. No way am I putting my stack in here.

No re-raise pre-flop? [/ QUOTE ] Nope. A preflop call should mean I am playing for set value, so I should be maybe checking that flop OOP?!? No set = No bet. |

[/ QUOTE ] Hero is UTG+2 at a full ring, so the smoothcall makes sense to me. And yeah, $20 seems right on the turn. If someone wakes up on the turn, I fold. If called, I think I check/call a reasonable bet on the turn. |

[ QUOTE ] No set = No bet. [/ QUOTE ] That's the guidance, but I often can't resist betting the overpair either. It has to be a leak, hopefully it's only a small one. I suck at playing JJ OOP (this type of hand would be good for one of your "how's your line" polls). |

No set = No bet. [/ QUOTE ] This is an interesting topic, in fact I just started a thread on the whole JJ subject. Most times I've played JJ for set value and then started betting the overpair, it has gotten me in trouble. It's a marginal spot because the medium-high level of uncertainty allows us to make bigger mistakes. |
