Re: How would you react? B&M Confrontation last night
Unlike all of the pseudo intellectuals/sophistos, I don't think you did anything you should be ashamed of (which you seem logical enough to already understand).
If his hand was in my face, I would have slapped it out of the way. I would have insulted him also, as you did. I probably would have walked away rather than get in a shouting match though. I'm not saying you did anything wrong there, just that shouting in public does not really fit my personality. How people react in these situations has less to do with logic/religion/philosophy than the pseudo intellectuals would have you believe. Like any other mammal, a human's response is going to be governed by many factors. I am not saying to intentionally "act like an animal". What I am saying is that we are animals, whether we like or not, and so we have no choice. There was a very similiar thread a while back in the psychology forum, and some licensed psychologists gave their thoughts. I was amazed at how shallow and unscientific their responses were. It's as if they don't understand that human beings are animals. Do they even understand that someone who is 250 pounds of muscle is more likely to act aggressively in this situation than a 90 pound psuedo intellectual? And that this has nothing to do with "maturity" or "level of sophistication"? Do they understand that this would be the case with any higher animal species? That's why "psychology" is a soft science, I guess. Modern psychology may as well be a religion, or a philosophy. Many pseudo intellectuals don't like to be told that they are religious, but they accept so much sophistry based on faith that I see no distinction. Surely, anyone who responds to a holier than thou diatribe along the lines of "you failed to demonstate that you are a superior human being than him, and you should not have sunk to his level" with an "AWESOME" must be some kind of religious zealot... If I said nothing in that situation, I would lose sleep over it. I guess that makes me quite "immature" and "unsophisticated". I'm OK with that though, so I would slap his hand out of the way. I don't allow strangers to wave their hands in my face in a taunting manner, unless there are other considerations (i.e. I am fearful of the consequences of reacting due to the nature of the situation). So I would ignore all of the "holier than thou" responses. You did what felt right for you. I don't think you did anything wrong or inappropriate. Were I to witness that event, I would understand your actions completely. I would consider the other player to be way out of line. It's not appopriate to taunt other players and wave your hands in their face. I mean, what if he slapped you? Should you turn the other cheek? Wait, I know... You should document the incident, go the police, and file a civil suit. Any other action would mark you as simply an inferior person. I mean, the baby boomers figured out that the last several thousand generations of human beings had it all wrong, and the subsequent generations have accepted their sophistry with no questions asked. For example, never ever strike a child in any situation imaginable. Yeah, right. Ignore these zealots. As for the people who said you should stay at the table, I don't think they know what a sit and go is. I don't think there is one right answer here. Your way of handling it seems fine to me. |

So you pick fights based on whether or not you think you can get away with it? [/ QUOTE ] Are you serious? When did I say I pick fights? I go out of my way to be respectful and polite to strangers. If they act aggressively towards me, this will sometimes change. One of the factors in how I act will surely be whether I think I can "get away with it". But that is true of every human being alive, including yourself. |

[ QUOTE ]
I like to think that I am very respectful at the poker tables but i dont care if i was in a church, if someone says something i dont like i react. Last night i am in the middle of my third S&G (was going to be my last). I am short stacked, weak player raises from mid pos, I see 88, so I move all in for my remaining chips. He flips over KQo, he catches a Q on the river. He jumps up, leans over the table and says Bye Bye while waiving his hand in my face. I say "what did you say?" he repeats it. My response is "Go FCK Yourself" He jumps up out of his seat and starts talking like a punk, Ill whip your ass yada yada. I fire back some verbal insults. It def was a scene. I am curious how would you react if someone did that to you? I am not looking for a debate on whether I reacted wrong or not, I would most likely react the same if it ever happened again. Just curious of our reaction. [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like you behaved like a tool. There are real battles you can fight in life and getting into a testosterone feud with someone over an idiotic gesture is not one of them. SpaceAce |

Re: How would you react? B&M Confrontation last night
I know exactly how I would react in this situation. First I would stare at the man for a good 6 seconds in reflection of how much of a douche he is, then I would say "Wow buddy, I wish I could be as cool as you when I win a coin flip in a $50 sit and go. I can't wait to see more of your witty comments on next years world series final table." That should leave the entire table looking at him like a retard, which is plenty good enough to make me happy.

Re: How would you react? B&M Confrontation last night
I think you the obvious solution is that you challenge him to a heads up match for your life savings.
"You, me, 100/200 no limit hold em... table 27, in one hour." If he never shows, you can collect an eyewitness report from the dealer that the casino sent to prove your own superiority. Next time you show up at that card room, they'll all be like "woah, that's the guy who was willing to risk it all for an a petty argument about who's dick is bigger". |

Proceed to grab him by the back of the neck, forcing his head into your "crotchal" region, and thrust and thrust while you shout "yeah, you like that, you know you like that!" And he'll be totally "pwned", as they say. |

Re: How would you react? B&M Confrontation last night
I don't really mind conflicts and fights at the table, they're pretty interesting. Just like taunting and trash talking on the basketball court or something...you get a chance to show off your quick-thinking and wits when a guy gets in tries to step to you, and you're protected from physical action by the authorities.
Slacker13, no way I would take the high road. The high road is boring and requires self-control that isn't necessary here. I would engage him in some verbal taunting, keeping a look and manner of controlled disdain. If he tried to get physical, I would either wait until he got hauled away by the casino security (he loses the tourney) or challenge him to a fight right then and there, then when we got outside, I'd run away screaming, "You better get back to your tourney, you've already lost two rounds of blinds!" |
