Default Balsa model kit question

My son just got one. Instructions say the balsa should be primed with dope.

What is dope?

LOL. Well in my own defense, no-one who doesn't know that would be able to answer my question, I guess.

Balsa wood is a very light wood used in crafts and model making. RC planes are made of balsa. Or they used to be. I guess some of them might be fibreglass or plastic now.

I couldn't tell you what it's made of, but I remember using it all the time. You can pick it up at any hobby/toy shop (or online likely). It's often called 'weak dope'.

Thanks. There aren't any stores for model makers around here, but there are a couple of craft stores I can try.
