You're a grown man and getting all worked up about some hundred dollars you lost to a conartist

As he should. Several hundred dollars is a lot of money to most people.

I avg losing that in a week to some guy that abuses the all in policy at party and I don't whine about it all the time.

Please provide links to the posts in which he "whines" about being scammed. IIRC, he made one post, not asking for sympathy, but simply to warn others to be aware of the possibility of being scammed.

It's not the "whining" it's the inability to take a joke about something that is over... Poor choice of words on my behalf.

Was it really several hundred? I was sure it was $100
No one besides me thought my post was funny?

There is no granny mae!

[/ QUOTE ]

You are absolutely correct. Granny's real name is Robert. Robert is a young man with a coronary condition that has left his family and friends taking care of a 42 year old man that can't recognize his wife.

If you had read all of Robert's posts, you would realize that he never claimed to be a grandmother, female, or any kind of World Class Player. Those that know him realize he is a World Class person, and other than being a bit over the top, never had any intentions here but to make friends and crack jokes.

If it meant anything to validate the identity of this person, one could simply speak to a site manager of any of the major places to play. He certainly did not set up accounts under the name Granny Mae. He used his real name to set them up, and when he spoke to them, he spoke to them as Robert. He was not a "schizo", just a poker player that came up with a screen name many years ago at paradise in honor of his Grandmother and best friend, Edna Mae.

Edna Mae taught Robert to play 7-stud as a child, and encouraged him to continue playing because it was something they shared together. Robert realized that it was profitable to be perceived as an old woman in the early days of Paradise because his tight style of play got him the money more often than not.

He worked very hard to build an internet business to add to a chain of retail stores. This hard work and over-acheivement led to his first heart attack, and having to take it easy and stay at home led him to online poker and this forum.

He sold his internet business a while ago, but his other efforts have resulted in 50+ people having full-time jobs to support their families. The stores he opened will remain part of the family now, and will ensure that those that helped him get where he was, will always have jobs. The income from his business successes also guarantees that his wife and family will always be taken care of. If I am sounding like he was a saint or something, that is not my intentions. My intentions are to defend a person that has been a lifelong friend, because he can't defend himself right now. This is his legacy, not the Granny persona.

His Grandmother Edna will out live him, along with his parents, wife, siblings and extended family. That is a shame. Many of these people read this forum, and this thread has deteriorated to a ridiculous speculation that Lorinda was Robert, or that Robert just became "tired" of posting so devised an illness. That is insulting to those that care about him, and wish to see a dignified end to this thread.

That is my attempt here. I'm not sure what got up your a*ss pokerfunn, but let it go, and start discussing poker. You accused Robert of never making a poker related post, and that is as far from the truth as the rest of the speculation here.

Robert was never shy about telling sites what he really thought. Ask Mike Sexton how many letters he answered to Granny that started with "Robert, thanks for the input or suggestion or complaint..." Ask Lucy jones if Robert put on a dress and an old woman's wig when they met at Foxwoods to discuss things that could help improve party. Ask David from truepoker if Robert ever hid his identity. Ask Dan from Pokerstars if...well, the point has been made.

The list of REAL people that know exactly who Robert is is longer than the list of those that speculate stupid theories.

From what I remember him telling me, the only two people he ever lied to were Doyle Brunson and Peg Smith on R.G.P. They were not even lies, he just never denied he was an old woman to them, and these were email conversations that transpired a long, long time ago. In both cases, Doyle and Peg emailed Robert first. Doyle emailed about a post of "Granny's that he enjoyed on RGP, and Peg emailed first for a reason I am not familiar with. Robert practiced careful omission, but NEVER intentionally lied. He was non-specific on gender, and when asked by someone he respected, told the truth in it's entirety. Lorinda is Robert's "best friend" in the online poker world, and any similarities are because they share the same passion for the game and no tolerance for fools and thieves.

He misled Doyle Brunson to get a free copy of Super System autographed for his Grandmother, and he misled Peg Smith because his Grandmother actually used to sit with him when he answered emails while playing poker, and Peg and Edna got into a dialog and became email friends. Edna loved chatting with Peg, and Robert never had the heart to "come clean".

I have no clue if Doyle knows or not. There are 2 autographed copies of SS in the family home. One is autographed to Edna Mae, the other to Robert. These are cherished possesions to the family, and probably the most cherished possesion of Edna's. Considering there are two books, it is possible Doyle knows. He had always regretted misleading these two, and may have even told them eventually. I don't know, and at this point it does not matter.

I had wanted to post some of this in the "origin of the screename" threads, but I did not want to depress the thread.

After his first heart attack at 40 years old, he and his Grandmother sat together for hours and days playing this "newfangled internet poker". She sat with him during the last KOTZ, while his wife screamed for him to get off the computer. Edna is as funny and as outrageous as Robert, and they played as a team (meaning they talked about the next move, not played 2 accounts or computers). Edna Mae loved being "immortalized" by Robert, so stop the DE-moralizing him. OK, pokerfunn?

Beyond that, ask Lyle Berman to pull the employment records of the Grand Casino in Biloxi, and ask Lyle who his management company hired to Run the F&B Department for the new hotel on the property.

Don't chastize this person for posting anonymously to a newsgroup in an attempt to shed some humor. Don't trivialize the pain and suffering that he and his family are/have been going through.

To those that have said kind words, I thank you for the friend's and family of Robert G, aka Granny Mae. May he finally find peace in a place where trolls like pokerfunn have better things to do.

I won't bore you all with the great things that Robert has done for people on this board, or his tireless pursuit of making sure that integrity was essential in this online poker world of cheats and scumbags. Go after them pokerfunn, and you will have done something noteworthy.

I apologize for the somber post, I apologize to Hong and the family. I apologize to those that have been bothered by this clutter.

Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] is one hell of a funny legacy for a MAN that never played that crap unless it was in the blinds. Keep THAT thread sentiment going, but please let this thread die. It is a matter of respect.

You are correct pokerfunn, there is no Granny Mae.

Wassup.....

TYVM for setting the record straight. As you know from my earlier post in this string, there are some confidences that must be kept and I will always keep them.

I will always keep my Q5s and Red Sox tickets. My hope was to hand them to him across a table at Foxwoods. I will hold onto that hope until you tell me otherwise.

My heart goes out to Granny & his family.....

Default Re: GRANNY MAE NEVER EXISTED, Sorry, I knew Granny way back before ...

Granny Mae played on Truepoker long before ever posting here as Granny Mae and, to paraphrase Llyod Bentsen, "I knew Granny Mae from before the Granny Mae days, a real nice person with whom I spoke on the phone many times.

You are way off base on this one.

Good thing Kurn, cause the FedEx fee for sending cashout checks to Klingon is enormous.

Thank you, Wassup.

I was lucky enough to have been one of Robert's internet friends and I knew much of what you have written.

It has pained me deeply to read some of the posts in this thread, and I am so glad you have let everyone know what a good and decent man Robert is.

I know there are numbers of regular posters here who had very special relationships with Robert - each one of us will remember him with a smile for the rest of our lives.

Long live GrannyMae.

I find your unerring ability to appear asinine and arrogant quite amusing. Otherwise I thought your attempt at humour remarkably tasteless.
