How is calling his raise any good? Thanks for the bad analysis. It was clear: raise all in or fold. (response to mlagoo, not everyone else.)

Well, look at it from his eyes. You are BB, its pretty likely he is putting you on a 5 or an 8 here, so he is trying to represent the K here. That, and the fact you think you are right, should all add up to a push.

if you bet out, do you think he still raises you or complies and folds?

I see that he had AQ, but big elaborate bluffs when other people show strength will only work so many times until you get caught.. I still think that it was a good fold after the re-raise unless you had a crazy good read.

I guess you are right heaven. But I really haven't seen too many moves that are big bluffs like that. He risked 1/3 of his stack to take me off the hand. I was thinking of the all in, but then I thought why would he commit himself like that.

Well, what if I was wrong? I would basically be out. I figure, whatever, I'll live to see another day.

Doesn't matter if you're right. Trust your gut-- I struggle with this too at times, but that's what separates the great players from the rest. Your instincts point a certain way for a reason.

Marwan,

When he showed his hand, I thought the exact same thing you just said. Then, I got moved to another table.

Well it's probably alot easier for me to sit here and tell you what I think was the right move than if I would actually come over the top if this happened to me. If I took time to really think it through I probably would but you never know.

that wasn't the point. you said that you KNEW you had him beat. if you knew you had him beat, folding clearly isn't the right play.

of course, the truth is, that you didn't know you had him beat. you check-raised and he continued to show strength, and you made the correct play by folding TPNK. he just showed you a bluff, which happens all the time, and you felt the need to post about it on an internet forum. just tell him nh, make a note that hes capable of 3betting with ace-high, and move on.

nath,

I went with my instinct of survival over my ego. I rarely see someone come over the top like that. It made me think twice about pushing.

There have been countless discussions about survival in tournaments like these. I'm still fairly new, so I heed the advice. You can't win if you have no more chips. I'd say this situation is in the 10% range according to Harrington. But, I still see I have a lot to learn.
