Re: POKERROOM FREEROLL HAND QUESTION
You must be DJN1105. pre-flop- min. raises are bad news. they don't entice enough people to fold, especially the big blind, although it mostly worked this time.
flop- too small a bet. the pot is 2200- there's two hearts out there so you want to bet at least half the size of the pot, if not the size of the pot to avoid someone drawing out on you. his re-raise - he says he has a hand. are you sure you want to tangle with the one stack that can knock you out (or double you up?). your-re - raise; again too small a bet. he's bound to call it. you should've raised to about 6k. also, I hope you had a hand to back that up. the turn-0 way way way too small of a bet. the pot is around 9k and you bet less than 10% of it- a very weak bet. His your all-in re-raise - difficult to evaluate without knowing your hole cards. but you could've folded and had plenty of chips to work with at this blind level. It was pretty clear he really liked his hand with all those re-raises. did you really like yours well enough to put your tournament life at risk? (I'm guessing you had AK and he had A4). |

Re: POKERROOM FREEROLL HAND QUESTION
You had top pair, OK kicker. you were behind to a lot of stuff, not just aces (sets, two pair, king, bigger kicker, 4 anything and possibly two hearts). you got all of your chips in before the second pair came.

Re: POKERROOM FREEROLL HAND QUESTION
When you get reraised on the flop you've really got to re-evaluate the strength of your hand. His patterns suggest he has a hand, freeroll or no. Your flop raise asks him: "Do you really have a hand?", and his re-raise replys: "Yeah I got a hand punk, whaddya gonna do about it...". At this point you've got to be looking to get to as cheap a showdown as possible, or fold if it gets too hairy (unless you drastically improve).
There's no shame in folding top pair, especially when it meets resistance like this. If he DOES manage to bluff you off the best hand, so be it. Next time he tries it hopefully you have a real hand and get your stolen chips back plus some extras. Just because you're invested here, don't think you have to go down with top pair 3rd kicker. There's a lot of hands ahead of you, so pick a spot where you're more in the driver's seat. Hope this 4 am rambling helps a little... and welcome to the forum. |
