quickie: KQo with a dead queen
Hero has KQo in MP1. One EP limper. During the deal, the Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] was exposed.
Hero...? And just to get precise, does your answer change if Hero has AQo? AQs? |

No, seriously.
How much of the value of KQ comes from flopping a big pair? How much does this change when one of your pair outs is gone? How does this affect your decision of how to play KQ before the flop? What about AQ? It makes fewer straights than KQ, so the affect should be more profound. Are you still raising AQ, or are you now limping, or folding outright? Also, holy crap the Raiders just retook the lead with 1:45 to go. |

This is a great question. I hope someone smart comes by and provides an answer.

At least Oprah is on my side.
And hey look, CBS *just* cut over to the GB game, and the Packers are already losing. |

Re: quickie: KQo with a dead queen
Did the exposed card get burned, or is it in somebody's hand? Have you seen that guy act?
Well, you go from 28% to 23% to flop exactly a big pair (there's a little bit extra, too, as you might flop MORE than a pair). Beyond that, the chances of flopping any of your possible draws is unchanged. Add to that, if a queen does flop your hand will be well-hidden. Play it as you would normally, I say. And, I don't think it changes significantly if you're holding AQ instead of KQ. |

Re: quickie: KQo with a dead queen
Thanks boxlax, do you know of a good source for these pre-flop and post-flop percentages, other than calculating them all myself? Or do you think the latter is a useful exercise?

The reason I ask is, if it was flipped but stayed in the guy's hand (does this even happen, anywhere?) and he came out firing, I'd be much more likely to dump my KQ. AQ, I still think not. |

There are lots of sites out there (here's one) that list various odds for you, but you should at least have a handle on how they arrive at the numbers. |
