May I ask why...I mean, obviously, you know this guys play...but if you respect his play, what hand could you put him on that he 3-bets preflop and check/calls the whole way? (Trying to learn here, not being confrontational)

I think the better question is what hand that he plays that way will he call a 3 bet with that doesn't beat AK? If he knows Bob is capable of making decent folds, he might wait w/ AA or KK, especially after the K comes. Thats a horrible card for Bob's 4 betting range, the only hand it helps is AK or KK and terrifies everything else that isn't AA. The value in the 3rd bet is having it being called by an inferior hand, I don't see that happening here, like ever.

bet/call seems about right to me. Seriously, what hand does he 3-bet at a full table that includes a 4?

[/ QUOTE ]

Im pretty sure he is considering checking with the intention of raising.

[/ QUOTE ]

I wasn't. I was trying to figure out if he was more likely to call or bet a hand like QQ-JJ.

[/ QUOTE ]

Call and its not close.

lil feller...makes perfect sense. So iow, no hand that OP could beat would call the 3-bet. Gotcha.

And PokerBob, the range of hands that he could 3-bet preflop with was exactly what I was meaning when I asked why not 3-bet, but then again, any hand you can beat would not call the 3-bet, so this goes back to what lil feller said.

Which brings us back to the bet/call on the river

villain here is a regular in this game. he knows and respects my play and i know and respect his.

I raise in EP with AKo, folds to villain who 3-bets, folds back to me and i make it 4, villain just calls.

flop HU: 642r
I bet, he calls

Turn: K
I bet, he calls.

River: 4

I think about betting and think about checking. What do i do and why?

[/ QUOTE ]

i really took about 20-30 seconds on the river and almost checked, but i bet. he popped me and i called and he showed KK. I get pwned.

Bob, i don't mean to be a dick, but don't be results oriented here. Betting is a no brainer in this situation, and you know/knew that. The way villian has played this hand, he seems showdown committed, but there are plenty of hands he will be more than happy to take a free showdown with where he is obligated to call a bet. This time he had KK, and played it quite poorly IMO. Don't worry about the outcomes so much, he played the hand weird and it worked out this time.

I don't think you got pwned. You got unlucky. Next hand.
