Learning from the \"fish\"
Everyone has been a victim of this typical fish play. You raise PF - fish calls. You miss the flop but bet your KQ overs - fish calls. Turn - the same. River you give up and check - fish bets.
So this is my hand from a Ladbrokes 6-max table. I am on BB with 79s. CO (26/18/2) open raises, folded to me - I call. Flop is 68Jr. CO bets - I call Turn is a 2 (no FD for me). CO bets - I call River is a 4. CO checks - I bet |

Re: Learning from the \"fish\"
no way man. Half of his steal hands are pairs, and a good chunk of the rest hit that jack.

Re: Learning from the \"fish\"
I'm not so sure. The river check/call is a pretty standard tool of the decent player, which villian appears to be. I think I read something in Ciaffone's book ("Improve your Poker") about "the bet that can not be right": if all you can beat is a busted draw, betting on the river is incorrect, but check/calling can be correct. Were I the villain, depending on my read of you, I would call here even with Ace-high.
Granted, betting is the only way that we're winning the hand, so I suppose that it could have value. I'd have to have a read that villain was quite capable of folding in this spot before I'd try it, though. |

In your pre-example, the fish bets the river on the end usually when he has a pair of somethings, not as a pure bluff. For you to bet here, you need to know that fish is the sort to bet UI overcards on the flop and turn, but will fold A-high on the river to a bet. |

If he were from the SB, though, and checked on the end, I wouldn't bet this without a read, since there were no draws available. Either your opponent is a fish and won't call with a hand you beat here, or he's not a fish and has probably noticed that you're aggressive, so he still won't call with a hand you beat. If the flop were draw-heavy and nothing came in, I might try bluffing an OK player off his hand, especially if I've been showing down decent hands until now. But I probably also try stuff like this too much . |

Re: Learning from the \"fish\"
I think this is spew. You should read the Shorthanded PDF about semi-bluffing with overs against calling stations and passives. To sum it up, it's a waste of money in most cases. Fish bet on the river because they have you beat. Just give it up. Just wait till you connect with the flop and value bet.

Re: Learning from the \"fish\"
Oh crap! I always thought that ppl who post hands in this laconic format are cool. Obviously I'm not.
It's a steal from SB. (I wish someone would come up with a Prima hand converter). Apologies for messing this up. |
