I'd just like to point out that your IQ isn't supposed to change over your lifetime unless you've managed to loose many brain cells via drug use, drinking etc. IQ is supposed to be intrinsic.

[/ QUOTE ]

i have lost some braincells, but not that many.

basically I was just a lot smarter back then compared to poeple my age than I am now. There's still a big gap, just not a huge one.

I used to be able to spell [censored] backwards better than most people could spell forwards. Now that's intelligence

This sounds like a really terrible strategy in general but I'm glad it worked out for you.

I applied Early Decision. I got in. There was no gamble really. Although it is true that I didn't start any other applications and would have had to write them in a few weeks. But it's not like I only applied to one school and that was it. I could have applied to more schools if I didn't get in.

Oh, what percentile would 5 std devs put me into? I can't remember my statistics crap.

[/ QUOTE ]

you would fall into the top 99.99997% of the world's population. Or for every 3million+ people, there is one of you.

i always scored in the top percentile on standardized tests and i used to assume that meant i was really, really, smart but i've found that thinking of myself as "pretty smart" has served me much better than thinking of myself as "exceptionally smart."

so, for the record, i am pretty smart. (1460, 33)

I didn't talk till I was 3. My parents thought I was retarded. They took me to a specialist who as part of the testing process, gave me several things to play with and then would ask me what they were/used for. She gave me a comb and I tried to eat with it and put it my mouth like it was a fork. She informed my parents that I was 'retarded' and would have severe learning defects and a rough childhood. When my parents asked her what prompted this, she talked about how she gave me a comb and I tried to use it as a fork and eat with it. My mom then explained how we didn't have any combs in the house. Explains my huge afro. from ages 2 - 10.

Many very intelligent people develop late for whatever reason.
