Re: How do I get a coloured name?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] On a related note, I really hate the term "African American", it only works in the US. What exactly do Americans call blacks outside the US? African-English? African-French? It's stupid and pretty insular. [/ QUOTE ] Its not stupid if the people they are referring to are Americans that are of African descent. That goooey organ in your head, use it. [/ QUOTE ] Yet almost nobody in the U.S. ever calls people Irish-Americans, German-Americans, etc. [/ QUOTE ] Negroid is a race, Irish and German are nationalities. Did you really not understand that? [/ QUOTE ] Then why don't you call them Negroid-Americans? |

Caucasion, Negroid and Mongaloid! Theres line! [/ QUOTE ] It's ironic that if you call a black person (or whatever PC term is in vogue) a "Negroid", it would likely be viewed as an insult. Refer to Asian-Americans as "mongoloids" and you will feel the wrath of the PC nazis. But call a white person a "Caucasian" and it is perfectly acceptable (and is even listed that way on many forms). It's also odd that someone who's ancestors may have come to America in say 1750 would be referred to as "African-American" while someone who's ancestors are say from Europe in 1920 is simply an American. If I were black, I'm quite sure that I would find the term "African-American" the most demeaning of all terms for my race. |
