I am playing in my first HE tourney next week and wondered how the bounties worked and what exactly is a shootout?

I assume it's at the Orleans?

Each player has a $5 bounty on his/her head. When you eliminate a player, a $5 chip will be given to you.

There are different definitions to the word, "shoot-out," depending one where you are playing. In one poker room, a shoot-out could mean that there is one "winner" at each table, who will go on to take on the winners of other tables. In another poker room, shoot-out might mean that it is a winner-take-all tourney, although that it less commonly used.

Michael Wisenberg's poker dictionary http://www.planetpoker.com/games/dictionary/vocabs.asp defines shootout as:
----------------------------------------------------------
shootout tournament

(n phrase) 1. A special tournament in which a number of tables of players each play down to one winner, and then the winners of each table compete in the playoff. Often all players who make it to the final table receive a prize, usually ranging from an amount equal to the buy-in for the first busted out to the main prize, which often is 40 to 50% of the total prize pool. Also see freeze-out tournament, no-rebuy tournament, and rebuy tournament. 2. A tournament in which one player ends up with all the money, one that is played till only one player remains.

Hope this helps!
