Do I need a rental car for a 5 days in Vegas?
I am planning my birthday on Travelocity for next year in Vegas. 5 nights 6 days in Vegas at New York New York (I know it is cheap but I just need a place to sleep, and when the lights are out it is just like any other room).

Unless you are going to the Hoover Dam or Area 51, you don't need a rental car. And if you do go to those places, just rent one for a day or 2 and you will be fine.

[/ QUOTE ] All depends on what you plan to do (and where you plan to do it), how much you plan to drink, and what your tolerance for walking is. I vote "no" because I would plan on being at MGM a lot and drinking a lot. |

Re: Do I need a rental car for a 5 days in Vegas?
Steve, IMO, a car is a waste unless you never drink. My last trip my brother insisted we get a car, and it mostly stayed in the garage. Priceline is your friend. You can get a economy car for $10/day. I paid $15 for a mid-size. |

Re: Do I need a rental car for a 5 days in Vegas?
I voted "Yes". I like to get off the strip, like way off sometimes, and having a car makes it very easy to do so. I love the strip but for that long, I'd prefer to be able to easily drive downtown or to an outlying casino if I wanted to. Also, there are some great restaurants on the outskirts of town that you won't want to cab it to.
I also like to go to the Valley of Fire or Red Rock Canyon, and a car is pretty much required. If you do get a car, look at the maps and take roads that parallel the strip rather than the strip itself. Driving up that thing will make you insane - especially on a Friday or Saturday night. I usually book online just to make sure I know my rate before I get there. But I have heard of some good deals people are getting by lining up the car from hotel rental desks. I need to look more into that. Regards, T |

if you want to eat cheap, or know anyone that lives offstrip, you probably want one. Otherwise, probably not.

Re: Do I need a rental car for a 5 days in Vegas?
I rent cars when I will only be there a couple days. They usually are as cheap as cab + tip to and from the airport. Plus you get the flexibility if you want to go downtown/offstrip/other end of strip.
For 5 days, it may be stuck too long in the parking garage to be of any value. If you do book online, I find Orbitz.com has a good interface with all the agencies, vehicle sizes, and prices clearly displayed on one page. |

Re: Do I need a rental car for a 5 days in Vegas?
It's definitely not needed, but I always like renting a car when I am in Vegas, no matter how long I am there. I like the flexibility for play and for off-Strip restaurants.
One nice thing is to get on a rental car company's "Preferred" or pre-registered list (Preferred is the Avis name for it), so you can just jump from the airport to a shuttle to your rental car without waiting in a taxi or shuttle queue. |

No.
If you are like a normal person you are already too drunk to drive once you step off the plane. You don't want to start your trip off with a DUI do you? |
