Default What is mean\'t by equity?

I have been reading posts where people talk about a certain range of hands and your "equity", just wondering what this is mean't by and could you give me an example of what is mean't? I am guessing it is something like your odds against the range of hands you put your opponent on? I have no idea how to work it out.

I recommend reading GSIH and SSH. Ed Miller et al. explain it to a T there. In the meantime equity is: if the pot currently contains $100, and you estimate that you have a one in four chance of winning it, then your equity in the pot in $25

There are different kinds of equity. Equity basically refers to how much you "are owed" by certain situations. Here are a couple brief discussions:

Pot Equity

Fold Equity

Both of these come from the Poker Wiki, which has plenty of other useful information.
