Following Streaks
I dont know what the term for this is, but I read about it somewhere. Its basically betting what you win at blackjack until you lose. You know say you start with 5, you win next hand you bet 10, then if you win 20, and so on and so forth. Of course you stop at like 4 or 5 times and start all over again.
I dont know if its stupid or crazy or whatever other negative term you guys can think of, but I read it somewhere and was wondering if anyone has actually tried it? Edit: Remembered where I read it, it was here on these forums on another topic someone mentioned it, but they didnt really put results or anything is was just mentioned by another 2+2 member. |

Re: Following Streaks
Ok, listen up.
Doubling your bets after every loss is called Martingale. This is a reverse martingale. If you want to read why it is stupid, look at one of the 15 other threads in the last 3 days on the topic. There is NO betting system of ANY kind that will ever overcome a negative expectation game (basically all casino games). The reason people don't post results after they do this is because they realize it's a stupid idea once they lose money. Most people don't account for doubles/splits. The rest don't account for tables limits or the amount of money they have. If you try it, or try to convince anyone here it's a good idea, you'll be mocked mercilessly, and it will be your own fault. Re: Following Streaks
Also note that the reason this would not work (besides blackjack being -EV for non-counters) is that you would experience a long string of small losses broken up by the occasional large win. Note that this is the reverse of what happens with a martingale system where you see a series of small wins followed by a big loss. Regardless both systems are equally flawed.

His answer is just as valid for any other betting system: Doubling after you lose, doubling after you win, doubling when the dealer scratches his nose, bla bla bla. They all don't work. |
