Re: The Party rebuy bug
First off, to clarify and summarize this thread with regard to Party Poker . . . you can rebuy at any time your chip count reads <= 1000, even DURING a hand.
So, if you start the hand with 5000, bet/raise to 4100, leaving you with 900 at the moment, you CAN rebuy while the hand is still ongoing. It is silly, and contrary to the spirit behind rebuys, but it is what it is. It makes for some crazy action from players who can't get enough of it. As to +/-EV, seems like it's impossible to calculate because it must consider the type and quality of player involved. I've seen guys make 14 rebuys (so they've purchased 15,000 chips), but are sitting at 4,000 chips left at the break because they're too enamored with rebuying that they'll do it with any old gutshot draw. Now they HAVE to make a good final table finish just to break even. But, you'll see some who do it effectively by combining it with decent play. There is a cutoff on the rebuys where the principal of diminishing returns applies; not sure where. For the $5+1 R+A's, one thing is for sure - the first spot that pays usually is equivalent to around 4 total buy-ins. So you're aleady covered for 2 rebuys plus the add-on when you finish ITM. |
