Decision to call 3 allins with 1/4 my stack with pocket 9\'s
Hi, I was at the final table with 6 players of a 3 table $10 buyin sitngo on Stars, and I had pocket 9's in early position, I raised preflop and one person raised all in, and 2 more called all in for about 1/4 of my stack, I'm wondering whether I should dump my 9's or hold them here.

Re: Decision to call 3 allins with 1/4 my stack with pocket 9\'s
Oh, and I put my 3 opponents on one with a lower pocket pair, and between the other two players, they had three overcards to my 9's, so I figured I had good pot equity.

Raise 3-4xbb preflop (that way you can get away from CO or SB big stacks if they push, but make a harder decision for others to put their chips in).
Fold to preflop reraise (smooth-call for 2/3 of stack by SB). The 3 hands are probably AJ+ for button, QQ+ for SB, QJs or something for BB. In other words, around 6 overcards. |

Re: Decision to call 3 allins with 1/4 my stack with pocket 9\'s
In early position with 99, you should raise more so you don't have to play a multi-way pot. Given what happened after your small raise, you should fold pre-flop. With an A on the flop, its likely you're behind on the turn...so why make a tiny bet that's not going to scare anyone away?

Re: Decision to call 3 allins with 1/4 my stack with pocket 9\'s
this is a pretty clear fold. if the button had pushed and everyone had folded, it would be a close decision whether you should call or fold, but you'd call. the SB's coming in after a raise and a push indicates a very strong hand, and the BB should also have a lot of strength to call there. you'd be very lucky to be up against an underpair and three overcards - it's a lot more likely you're looking at an overpair.
welcome to the forums. |

Hero folds.
You have 27XBB left and several players are going out. I don't think you're going to like the 9s here. I don't think you can reasonable expect to have the best hand. |

[/ QUOTE ] Why don't you just put them on 22, 33, and 44, to make the decision really easy? There is no way you can look at an all-in bet and know that it means a low pair or a medium pair or two high cards. And "putting someone on a hand" does not mean that if someone has a 60% chance of holding a pair and a 40% chance of holding two big cards, that you figure "he probably has a pair." The question here is: what percentage of the time will one of your opponents have a pair higher than 99? It's not a question of whether they "probably" do or don't, it's a question of quantifying the percentage. When they don't have a higher pair, it's usually a fairly reasonable call. When they do, it's awful. So you have to assign some percentages and figure out whether you rate to be +EV or -EV overall, rather than just guessing a particular scenario and going with it. |
