Default NL Tournament Hand

I don't know if a $2 buy-in hand is worth posting, but I will anyway.

2K/4K blinds w/$200 ante

I'm(67K) in the SB and am dealt AKo. EP(178K) calls, button(30K) raises to 15K, I call, EP calls.

Flop comes K, 2, A rainbow. I move all-in, EP folds, button calls and flips Q-10.

J hits on the turn and I lose the $80,000 pot. Was there anything I could have done differently, or is it just another bad beat?

Jeff

Sounds like just another bad beat to me.

I might have reraised the button all-in before the flop, although with half of his stack already in the pot, he may not have folded regardless. Ultimately, you got him to put all of his chips in the middle with 4 outs after the flop. You can't beat this situation, and 84% of the time, you'll end up winning. The other 16%, you'll be walking back to Houston.

You should have put the button all in before the flop. End of story. Even though this is half his chips I think he might have folded this hand if you put him all in.
I think Your all in on the flop was a pretty standard play. I'm glad you didn't try to get cute.

You could likely retire soon by playing with the button every chance you get.

Preflop, I don't like your call. I'd move all-in for sure b/c it's likely you have the better hand.

I guess I should have moved in pre-flop, and maybe I would have dragged in the big stack EP caller.

Thanks for the input.

If I could get players to call all-in in this situation everytime post flop, why would you want to lose the action? You want to action on a a hand like this, and its just a bad beat story. There is no need to really re-think this play.

You should have moved in preflop to give yourself a chance to take it down. However, a guy who calls a pot sized all-in bet on the flop with a gutshot might also call you with QT preflop ...
