I find myself doing it too often to. I think you're stealing too often when you know that everyone at the table thinks you're a maniac. If I have a good stack I tend to fold a couple orbits unless I catch a solid hand, and then the occasional 2-3 steal per orbit if the correct situation arises. Seems to work for me. The idea is to build your credibility.

I think it is Che who has written about the importance of changing gears over the course of a tournament. Rather than stealing once per orbit, steal twice or three times in a single orbit, and then lay back.

I found that when I started stealing less, I started lasting longer in tournaments, but I was stealing waaaay too much, and didn't know how to get away from a hand.
