Re: AC addict
I spent a week in a high rise on the North end of AC last April. There were several blocks between me and the casinos I would not want to traverse after dark, but I was generally comfortable in the areas around the casinos, on boardwalk and off. After dark, we took a shuttle back and forth.
The scariest people I saw were some of the entrants in the AM tournament at the Borgata. |

Re: AC addict
SFER you are not down, at all and you never will be. We don't overestimate urban danger we just understand it more than you.... You made it painfully clear that you have no clue about urban living but you think you are cool because you walked with over a couple of thousand dollars though the "rough" part of AC. I live in DC and see people like you in the police logs from SE who think "they are down" listening to too much 3-6 mafia or mobb deep then get robbed. I really hope you were kidding. it's common sense, if you don't know the terrain don't go hiking. you can now go back to listing to Jin and throwing your hands up in the mirror//

AC didn't feel unsafe in the least, it just felt depressing.

This isn't some quest for urban authenticity. Atlantic City is not particularly dangerous, especially around the casinos. Not many places are. I live in a city and have lived in urban areas for roughly my entire adult life. Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Have you been outside, on your feet, in Atlantic City? There's an Outlet Mall, a boardwalk, a convention center, that weird thing where the Miss America Pageant is held...did I mention an outdoor Outlet Mall? Also, wtf is Jin? |

Atlantic City crime statistics. Draw your own conclusions. [/ QUOTE ] I was just about to bust this out, but you beat me to it. For a rational/mathematical guy, sfer, you surprise me in your underestimation of the danger inherent with walking around in an area known to have such extraordinary crime rates. Its a bit like hiking Mt Everest or taking a ride on the Space Shuttle... you're 90% likely to survive without incident, but the fact that there's a 1 in 10 chance that something bad will happen makes these activities far, far more dangerous than most others in life. Same goes for walking around alone in AC... you may have a high % of no trouble, but the small % when you do is measurably higher than other cities. 3.2x the national rate for robbery is a good example. To put it in an EV sense, if you walk around with 10K and have no problems 99 times, and get robbed the 100th time, taking a walk in AC costs you $100 every time. Sure, this is in the abstract, but you get my point. |
