I was berated for being a fish on this one
The table as a whole was very tight. Villain specifically may as well been the leader - 14% VP$IP PFR only 3% although he did like the checkraise. Lots of unraised pots and raised pots had rarely more than three people seeing the flop.
Since it was tight I was playing more speculative hands with position (i.e. lower suited connectors, one-gappers, unsuited connectors, weakish aces). I won a few hands with favorable flops and I chased a few people away on misses with position betting. Thus far I hadn't shown much and my numbers for the session were my usual LAG/TAG hybrid. Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $1 BB (8 handed) converter MP1 ($66.45) MP2 ($105) Hero ($112.65) Button ($59.10) SB ($105.85) BB ($162.85) UTG ($78.90) UTG+1 ($93.25) Preflop: Hero is CO with 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 4 folds, Hero calls $1, 2 folds, BB checks. Flop: ($2.50) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets $2.5, Hero calls $2.50. Turn: ($7.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets $7.5, Hero calls $7.50. River: ($22.50) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets $22.5, Hero raises to $45, BB folds. Final Pot: $90 After the pot, he betared me, calling me a fish repeatedly. He even did a little ASCII-art fish in the chat box. I was honored and amused! He also correctly surmised my holdings. So is playing like this sometimes okay in a "mixing it up" way when I think that I can buy pots down the road? Or am I a luckbag fish? |

Borderline fishy, but not horrible. I would have either raised PF or on the flop.

Raise this flop, you are the favorite against any of villain's likely holdings.

Wait! It wasn't a 67 of Clubs. The 6 was a spade! So i wasn't on a straight-flush draw, only open-eneded.

Re: I was berated for being a fish on this one
I don't mind calling the flop, but without the FD, I fold the turn. You only have six clean outs to the straigth, and an 8 doesn't even give you the nuts. Also, at a tight table, you're not getting the implied odds to chase someone down like this. If you had the OESD and the FD, I would like it.
After all, the reason you're playing these hands is b/c the table is tight and you think you can buy pots after the flop from them and you might hit the flop big with a disguised monster. But a tight table will not give you the odds necessary to keep calling PSBs all the way down. Right? |

Re: I was berated for being a fish on this one
how much fold equity do you think you have if you bluff a club river?
because you can't have that good of implied odds since you probably won't get paid off with 2 of those 8 outs you have. |
