I never limp UTG with any hand in NL.

I think this play is asking to get yourself trapped for all your chips.

There is no never in poker. You're either trying to steal in bad spots sometimes, or your folding value sometimes. Sometimes open-limping is the right play.

Ok - ur right, it's not "always wrong" with limping UTG.

But I never play full ring.

I see no purpose limping UTG with any hand. (Note, I am playing 25NL at FullTilt against mostly weak tight players)

Please give an example where limping UTG is correct in this type of game.

Suited connectors? Low PP? Am I making sense? Do you see why?

no you're not.

istead of saying "Am I making sense? " or "Do you see why?"

why don't you just come out with it?

There are two sides to this coin.

On the one hand, I feel that some hands can be open-limped from EP. In order for me to open-limp in UTG, I'll need to have a hand that wants to see a flop cheap, could flop huge, I'm very sure I'll get a good multiway pot and therefore great implied odds, my hand isn't crippled by bad position, and I have some confidence that the pot won't be raised PF behind me.

One specific example would be A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG at a table where I am sure that I'll get 5 callers not including the blinds, and I'm sure that nobody will raise PF.

On the other hand, I'm also saying that by "never open-limping" you would raise a hand such as this for the chance that you'll fold everyone & steal the blinds. But the same hand that is good enought to open-limp with might not be strong enough to open-steal with, especially in early position. First of all, in EP at a full ring table, the chances that everyone will fold are very slim. If your raising to 6xBB, you'll need to win the blinds 1.5/6 of the time, or 1:3. I doubt you'll win that often. If your hand is strong enough to handle a call, the problem is mitigated somewhat becasue you'll be able to continue postflop in some cases. However, a hand like A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] isn't such a hand, especially if you get more than one caller.

And just like there is no 'never' in poker, there's also no 'always' in poker. I won't open-limp A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] every time. In fact, it's pretty unusual that I find a table where it will work. But it does happen, and it's improtant to see how & when.

please don't use phrases like
"am I making sense? "

or "do you see why?"

its very condescending.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah, sorry if it comes off that way.

I realize the latter phrase is very condescending (Sklansky seems to love it, LOL), but I didn't mean the former with any hint of condescendence.

I simply meant to ask if I was genuinely making sense or being clear. Sometimes I ramble and don't get my point across effectively.
