Default medium pair trouble

These situations always seem to give me trouble, any help would be greatly appreciated.

1st hand I guess I got the situation I wanted. Should have bet out 3/4 pot-fold to reraise?

Second hand fold to turn bet?

Like I said help...please!

Hand number one is fine IMO.

Number two is a bit off. If you're going to raise preflop bet a bit more on the flop. You raised to 3$ preflop, then bet 4$ on the flop. It screams weakness. You didn't want to see him call there. Your bet was placed in order to make him fold. He didn't. It's time to get out of the hand now. Fold to his turn bet. You're not getting the odds to continue for a set and given you folded on the river I'm guessing that's what you were looking for.

Bet more on the flop. Easy fold on the turn.

Agree with what is said about the second.

For the first hand I am torn but I think there is a better line.

First of all what type of hands do you see villian reraising on the button with. If it is only high pairs then you line is correct, if villian would throw in a r/r we a big ace, or middle pair, I think you have to come out firing with a 1/2-3/4 size pot bet. Then again this can get you into some tricky situations as well b/c he will reraise you when you are beat and may even reraise when you aren't beat (AK, 99, etc). Thus, I am also having medium pair trouble. But, I think you need to throw a bet out there, b/c no matter his holding he is going to bet the flop.

Interesting cross link addressing a similiar topic. I would say the first hand in your post (like always) is very read dependant and your action (c/c, c/r??, bet) depends on the range of hands you can put the villian on.

Hand 1: Your OOP and you don't have a read. It's hard to put him on a range of hands that you're ahead of. You hope he has AK or AQ, but you don't know if he's capable of playing those hands like this. A check-raise might work, but I wouldn't try that unless I had a read on the player. I think I have to credit him with JJ or QQ and fold.

Hand 2: I think the river is a clear fold (flush completing, board pairing), but the turn is where you need to decide if you're hand is good or not. I don't like the turn call because you're not likely to improve and he is setting his own price to see the river. The turn is raise or fold IMO and I think you should fold. He's not afraid of top pair and you don't even have that.
