yes, it would be. So? 78 might do it, any pair. Don't you play these games? [/ QUOTE ] i guess not too well. i think the turn 7 brings in a few of the straight draws BB may have had. without a read i find it hard to make the assumption that an unknown BB bet middle pair into the field on every street. 10/20 might be a totally different monster though, i dunno. |

Re: 88 *gulp*
i dunno, every level i've played up till now people bet random hands in these spots. Thats why we can profit from them.

[/ QUOTE ] alright. maybe i'm just more conservative on the river (i mean, i know i am). i can see the argument for calling down but a river c/r seems like spewing more often than not, to me. if he doesn't have a 9 or straight is he even going to call the c/r? |

if he has pair he's calling [/ QUOTE ] betting a 3 or 6 into 5 players, including the PFR on the flop, turn, and river, and then calling a c/r when there are straight draws and TP pairing...i dunno. i wish i could see the game how you do, i'd likely be making mas $. |

Re: 88 *gulp*
i guarentee you the vast majority of players would not fold a pair on that river to a checkraise.

RESULTS
I'm still not sure about the c/r on the river, it's hard to say knowing the results. Villain had AQ and MHIG. I still think he'll call that c/r sometimes....

Re: 88 *gulp*
I play it the same.
With no read I think a river checkraise is a money-loser. It's certainly possible he is pushing something less than top pair. But consider: 1. He called preflop: 9x, 6x, or 3x. Which is more likely? 2. He bet the flop second of five players. Top pair or under pair? 3. He bet the turn after *everyone* called the flop and another overcard to middle pair fell. Top pair or buried pair? 4. He bet the river when checking to the button would have been a lot safer. Trips or buried pair? Plus this is not just about whether he has a nine. The play is very consistent with any of the three set-boats. From your remarks I'm sure a checkraise would have worked and it often will. But it is not the percentage play unless this guy is known to have no fear. The one good thing about the checkraise is it's unbelievable. I call BS on your having any better hand than your actual 88. So he probably has to call this with any pair to keep you honest. That also makes it the worst thing about the checkraise. I *know* you can't call a 3-bet. That means you are taking a real risk by checkraise-folding. |
