Have you read it? He is a bit childish but has some good handicapping tips in it. His ego is larger than life and he probably isn't that great of a capper but I thought the book was actually pretty well done.

Since were on the subject. I took a job working for Dan "The Man" Wilson long long ago (i lasted 3 weeks). He was a big sports handicapper out of Florida, he was close to Feist and Root. He had a radio show that was syndicated on 40 stations across the country. Anyway, these guys were raking in sometimes 150K + a weekend selling their picks. The guys who worked the phones and were just salesman were diving 80K+ vehicles.

Do you know how these guys picked their games? In the morning they would pick 8 guys to pick the games they liked, then the owner would select the opposite team and write the 8 teams on a chalk board. Every salesman was instructed to give out games starting with the first game for your first caller, second games for second caller and so on until you reached the end then you would start all over. This way you had people on 8 games of the year. The hope for them was to go at least 4-4 so you would have half of your clients happy and the rest would be pissed. They would then go into the happy ones and re-sale them and in most cases they would re-sale the pissed ones.

Its all a big scam. You think Root picks his own games? They all hired some guy from Canada to pick the games he would publicly announce.

Talk about storys. We had a booklet with scripts that we would read to different callers. For example, one guy would say that his source just called and the Steelers forgot their cleats and now they have to wear turf shoes on a grass field.

Or they would say that the Ming Brothers were coming into Vegas, they only fly in 4 times a year to bet sure games, and we were just informed of what game they are laying their money on.

Of course there would more intro leading in to each story and there were dozens more you could go with.

Its all a con. Root, Feist are a bunch of salesman who are making easy money off their BS.

The only people sadder than these sleazy, know-nothing snake oil salesmen are the complete morons who shell out for their picks.
