Default awkward spot with 88, whats the best line?

The villain was a loose-passive/passive, don't remember his exact stats atm, something like 30/4/1.5. Anyways, this was an interesting situation with 8s I thought. So many options... bet half pot right away, full pot, check raise, call flop and bet non club turn, etc. I decided that reraising him would not give me a good idea of his hand, as I doubt he'd reraise me with a 6 or a higher pp. Since I didn't want to play a big pot with a medium hand OOP without knowing where I stood I decided to call and bet any non club turn, seemed a safe way to go to me. What do you guys do?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

MP2 ($58.50)
MP3 ($112.70)
CO ($118.75)

BB ($136.40)
UTG ($73.33)
UTG+1 ($63.77)
UTG+2 ($53.39)
MP1 ($95.70)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $0.50.
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, UTG+1 calls $1, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, MP2 calls $1, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $3.5</font>, Hero (poster) calls $3, BB calls $2.50, UTG+1 calls $2.50, MP2 calls $2.50.

Flop: ($17.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(5 players)</font>
Hero checks, BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">UTG+1 bets $4</font>, MP2 folds, Button folds, Hero calls $4, BB folds.

Turn: ($25.50) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $12</font>, UTG+1 folds.

Final Pot: $37.50

I think your line is standard for this situation.

if called, i'd check/call the river and give him a chance to bet a busted draw or overcards.

well I like to lead the turn for a bit more, say 15.

but river is likely check fold for me if the turn 15 is called.

and it is nice out today but I'm stuck in the office talking to you degenerates. : )
