I'm investigating the same thing. The answers seem to be as follows:
1) Bally's is an aquarium after 11pm.
2) The Excalibur is "newbie-friendly"
3) The MGM is great for the young "hip" crown - very modern
4) Aladdin and Harrah's are a solids mix of regulars and tourists.
5) Not much easy money, or tourist-friendly options downtown
