What do you do in a situation like this?
Calling the flop raise seemed like a no brainer. I might have the best hand and even if he had a better Ace, I had a backdoor str8 and flush, plus 3 possible Ts as outs. Calling turn bet seemed fine because I still had the inside str8 draw and 3 possible Ts as outs. Noone can give any definitive replies as you provide no reads.
Folding the river would be a disater. |

Make things easier on yourself and 3 bet the flop.

I reraise the flop and bet the turn if he calls. If he reraises, I badly need a read here.

Unfortunately, I had no read on this player yet. It was the first round at the table.

What does re-raising the flop accomplish unless he re-raises me and screams that he has me beat?
If he has me outkicked, he's not going to fold. He'll call down with the better hand. It will wind up costing me an extra small bet when I am behind. |

If he reraises you can get out cheaply, instead of calling down.

Why not just use a WA/WB line after the flop raise (check-call turn, bet-fold river)? I definitely prefer that to 3-betting the flop and then folding somewhere.
Against crappy opponents, though, they're never going to fold their inferior A (and may not raise with AQ or AJ anyway), so i would 3-bet the flop and just keep leading. Without a read, it's kind of a toss up. |
