Borgata and \"The Death of the WPT\"
Borgata's 2005 WPT main event has a 67% bigger field and prize pool than last year.
Does this rapid year-over-year growth signify the death of the WPT and serve as proof positive that the boom in televised tournament poker is over? Discuss. (Preferably using logic and rhetoric and shying away from the use of empirical data.) Also, if you agree with my conclusion that this record growth does signify the death of the WPT, should this forum be renamed to "Harrah's $10K Circuit Event and Other Non-Televised Tournaments"? My opinion: Yes, this record turnout clearly means the end of the WPT is near. I give it at most 3 more months until it ceases to exist. I wouldn't change the name of this forum just yet though. |

Re: Borgata and \"The Death of the WPT\"
unless you're trying to be funny I have no idea what you're talking about.
They have MORE players this year in this WPT event...so that means it will come to an end soon? If they had FEWER players this year would that mean the state of the WPT is super-healthy and it is going to last at least 10 years more or longer? Should we hope that the next WPT event only draws 16 players thereby ensuring that it will somehow last forever? if your post is a joke then I guess I've been 'gotten'. If it's serious then what on earth are you talking about? |

Re: Borgata and \"The Death of the WPT\"
I'm a bit tired...yes.
but your logic is no more idiotic than someone babbling about 'online is rigged' etc etc. On these forums it sometimes seems that the more ridiculous the assertion, the more serious the poster really is about it. There have been people who have mentioned that the WSOP is growing too fast and the bubble will burst at some point (and evidently, nobody will have any money to play tournament poker at that time) or something like that. Anyway, end of my pathetic attempt to justify my incompetence. I'm off to bed. |

Re: Borgata and \"The Death of the WPT\"
The WPT isn't going to die any time soon, unless its IPO inconsistancies catch up to it. While it still seems as though the growth is slowing down, it is certainly still growing.
