Forgot to mention that this hand was my first at a new table, after being switched. So I have no reads at all on any of these people.

I probably fold to the weak lead then reraise but make it 180 or 200 preflop and let people hang themselves at a higher cost

I should raise pocket aces more than 4x the Big blind? At my other table the preflop raise was to 60.

I need action on this hand, don't I?

eh 4x bb is fine preflop, that'll work for you .. but i'm probably calling the flop.. it's more likely he has a mid pair than a 5 IMO.

He limped from MP which, at this level, can represent a lot of things. He closed out the action pf so, again, that could be a lot of things. What's he have here? Maybe a pp in the 22-99/TT range. I suppose suited connectors 56, 67, 78 are possible. Couple of big overs, A5s.

What beats you? 44, 5x (I'll guess the former). I figure you're either way way ahead or way way behind. I'd call without considering it too much.

This thread isn't getting too much action so I'll let the few that responded know that he showed 5,3 of spades for a set.

As soon as I got to the table he was all over me about how the Gators suck and how FSU is going to destory them. The usual FSU trash talk. It probably had an effect on him calling my raise.

Then the next hand I am down to 800 chips, with the blinds at 25-50.

I push all in over the top of a min raise with JJ only for him to call me with K5.

Flop: 5 A 2
Turn: 10
River: K

I guess this guy's hatred for UF and me provoked him to do everything in his power to knock me out of this tournament.

Do you guys ever encounter this?

Yes, but I think this really only occurs at the low buy-ins. Guys are sitting in their houses drinking some beer and playing some low stakes poker for fun. They get pissed off when they see an opponent who has a sports icon or nickname, they go ballistic because they have nothing better to do and their life is going nowhere I encountered a lot of crap during the NCAA tournament last year (I am a student at the University of Illinois), but I haven't been affected recently.

You got unfortunate here with the guy drawing out on you twice, but the majority of the time these type of players make you $$$.
