Re: Q9s MP
[ QUOTE ]
Call the flop you want to be building the pot in this position and if the button raises behind you and sb 3bets then you can cap. [/ QUOTE ] While this would be nice, I think the primary reason for not raising the flop is that you really don't want to force the guy out behind you and then get 3bet heads up. But you're right, building a pot would be nice if you can count on the guy behind you to stay. I might raise the flop if MP had called since you know he's already in. |

I don't understand why you'd raise this if MP calls.

Re: Q9s MP
Yeah i realize that we have an equity edge it's just that if we raise button folds and SB 3 bets and MP then folds don't we lose a lot on the 2 extra SB's we put in?
I suppose by raising if MP calls we have a chance for the free card. I just think if MP calls and is trapped in the middle he could easily fold a marginal hand with which we want him to call to pad the pot. I suppose at the end of the day it's no big deal because its hard to make many mistakes with a hand with so many outs in a pot this big, which is also multiway. However at this level (at least in my days there.. it's been a while) you won't be 3bet all that often, and even if you are MP will quite often come along. |

Re: Q9s MP
I should point out that with just a flush draw you generally want 3 other people coming along. With 2 people you're raising really thin and in some cases you're better off calling - however raising can also grab you a free card. In this case we're paired and have more than just our flush outs to improve so with 2 people the profit margin is wider - however I still call in this spot.

[/ QUOTE ] Predicting action like this is really read-dependent. In the absence of a specific read, the default play would be to raise a 2-card flush draw on the flop as long as there were 2 players in the pot already and neither of them raised. |
