You think chicks ever talk about their clothes and wonder if the quality is linear over the entire range of prices?

[/ QUOTE ]

Definitely Nordstrom.

I'm surprised at how many guys here buy clothes at Macy's... Pants there are fine, but as far as shirts, ties, jackets, etc, their men's departments typically blow.

Fair enough. I'm typically only shopping for casual and the only two Macy's I've been to in the past year are South Coast and San Jose, but both have sucked pretty badly in terms of casual men's wear.

are you fuking kidding me? the macy's at south coast is the best macys in the US. they have a separate mens section that is 3 stories. they have a lot of upscale stuff especially on the 3rd floor.

We have a Macy's here in our little town of New York that seems to be pretty big.

Does making sure people know you shop at "the world famous" South Coast make you feel more important?

Well....we probably don't put it in quite those terms....but yeah, we're aware that higher prices usually (not always) equate to better quality.

The manufacture of lower cost clothing has improved to the point that visually it can look pretty good. It's the quality of fabric, construction and resulting durability that is the big difference.

It does seem men are more willing to invest more money in "occasional wear" clothing....say a nice suit if you work in a business casual environment and don't have to wear a suit everyday. Still need one for special occasions....and guys will usually spring for it planning to keep it a few years.

Women....unless they have big wardrobe budgets...will try to economize on the special occasion stuff like Christmas party, etc.

And something that bugs me to this day is the fact that men's clothing is less influenced by trends and stays in style longer. The clothing industry does it's best to insure that women don't keep clothes long...even if the clothing is still in good condition and looks great.I may be a woman, but am not so enamoured of shopping I want to reinvent my closet contents every season. And I loathe going to the mall on weekends.

Now I have no idea if buying $300 pants would make another big quality difference, but I'm sure it would be noticeable.

[/ QUOTE ]

It does and it is, but it's certainly not linear between $25 to $300.

That's because it's not clear for women's clothing whether the relationship is even upward sloping.
