Default Heading up to Canterbury Oct 14-18

I just started dealing poker at a casino in iowa and one thing the dealers do every year is make a trip up for the fall classic. I have never been up there so I was wondering if I could get some advice on the best games going on up there. I ususally play 3/6 and 6/12 sometimes as our casino only had 6/12 dealers choice and I am still not up to par on my omaha o8 game. Online, i usually play 3-6 or 5-10 on party and one other site.

From what i have heard, it sounds like the 8-16 game up there is a better game then the 6-12 as the 8-16 game is much looser and the 6/12 has better players with smaller bankrolls. Now, since i have never been up there, i do not know if this is true. I know there are a couple of guys who post regularly on this site and i was just wondering if could get some of your feed back on this. Thanks in advance.

I am of the opinion that the $6/12 is the easiest hold'em game to beat in that room. The $8/16 game tends to be more aggressive, and the best opponents are the quiet, well-behaved type. This is not to say that there aren't loose-passive $8/16 game or rockish $6/12 games. If you find yourself in a game you don't like, get a table change. There is no excuse for sitting in a bad game in that room.

Really, the only bad game in that room is $4/8 Omaha/8. During the tournament $10/20 and $20/40 Omaha/8 go about every day, and those are usually good games. $30/60 stud/8 went every day last year, and that was a very good game.

I stopped playing the 6-12 because the last several times it has been an absolute rockfest. I love the 8-16 game but I am one of the quiet well behaved types.

6/12 is a walk in the park IMHO. 8/16 gets more aggressive, albeit often retarded aggressive.

I like it too, or at least did when i played it. but IMO if one wants to avoid massive variance, stay away. IMO every game is good at CP except for the 30 on some occasions.

How much time have you spent in the $4/8 Omaha/8 game?

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess i will start with 6-12 and go from there. I am sure i can always observe both games and their "wildness". Also, how long is the typical wait for those games. I know there is 50+ tables but have never been to a cardroom this big...well besides this years world series with 200 tables.

Thanks again,
IaHawk

I have found the 4/8 more profitable than the 6/12. Mind you, the 6/12 is a very good game, but I often find it filled with the same faces, some of them at least passable players. While I'm generally one of the better players at 6/12, I am almost always the best player at 4/8. This translates into better hourly profit. In general, I prefer a table I can dominate to a table that I can just beat.

Of course, I've never been here during the Fall Classic, so I have no idea how the games are then. Fortunately for me, I had leave coming to me, and will be taking off the first week of the event.
