this hand just happened, and I realized I have been getting violated while trying to clear this stupid stars bonus.
that said, this is not a bad beat post, it's a "I'm pretty sure my Aces are beat, how far do I go" post PokerStars 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 4 folds, MP2 calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, Button calls, 2 folds, MP2 calls. Flop: (7.50 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) MP2 checks, Hero bets, Button calls, MP2 folds. Turn: (4.75 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Button raises, Hero calls. River: (8.75 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Button bets, Hero calls. Final Pot: 10.75 BB after the raise on the turn I am pretty sure the #^%#&^% caught trip Qs, and I'm beaten, but without any substantial reads I figure there's a good chance he could be bluffing, I know I would often bluff after that scare card on the turn. after the raise, I thought about a reraise, but I can check-call it down for the same 2BBS it would cost to reraise. so is there anything else to do except sit back and think about all the times I should win this hand? |

this is fine.
this is even more fine in the complete absence of reads. |

I call this down every time. For what it's worth, if I were villian here I would consider raising the turn if I thought you might lay down a better hand (costs the same as calling down if I check behind on the river).
As another poster pointed out to me a few months ago, if you never folded an overpair heads up you wouldn't be making a huge mistake. |

Totally standard. I would only even consider folding here if I had an absolute read that a player was passive and only played back at me with the nuts. Even then, I'd probably waste the 2 BB and call down to make sure my read was right!

grunching.
hate these. but you gotta call this down (right?). Villian called two from the button so maybe you give him credit for the queen, but prolly not a 3 betting hand like KK or AK. Could be on something like QJ, QT, JT, AJ, AT, or even 55. |

I play it the same. In the absence of reads, not only could he have made trip queens, or a good player using the scare card for a bluff, but also consider that fish think the board pairing is good for them--they now have two pair.

After you PFR, you can reasonably expect many villains to take a shot at you when the board pairs, especially if it was the top card that paired.
I call down and expect to drag the pot much more often than needed to make this +EV. |
