Default Staying focused

I'm still having problems staying focused. If I could completely cut the playing time where I'm not focused, damn my winning would be really high. Instead somehow I loose focus occasionally. Any advice to staying focused? For some reason I don't notice it when it's happening.

I thought about this after I posted this and I kind of know what the problem is, just not how to fix it. There are a couple of ways I come to this. One, if I'm tired (physically or mentally) I tend to play worse but somehow I look back thinking, damn I wish I would have gotten up 45 minutes ago.

Two, when I'm doing well, say I’m 40BB in a couple/few hours of play. After about another 30-60 minutes I notice that I've given back 20 of those BB's. I don't see the problem until after it has happened. If I could somehow catch this right when it starts or stop it before it even happens....

In itself, the fact that you go from +40bb to +20bb doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem...could just be variance. This happens all the time.

If you can specifically tie the swings to mistakes due to inattention, then that's another story. Like "Oh, I didn't quite notice there were 4 spades on the board...maybe I shouldn't have checkraised that 2 pair..." Perhaps an extreme example, but you get my point...

If that sort of thing starts happening, doesn't really matter whether you're up or down. Time to quit for the day, or at least get up and take a break for a while.

Hoss,

Its definitly bad play, for whatever reason. It's not bad beats. It may be tilt or just fatigue but I wish I could catch it before it happens.

Try writing down how you plan to play, and sticking to your rules like it was the law. Play like a robot. If your rule says fold pocket 5s from EP - then fold pocket 5's from EP. Its that simple, just do it.
