I think UTG+1 paired his ace-rag and your buddy is toast.

I think we can narrow it down to something along the lines of...

A8s (2)
A6s (2)
A2s (2)
88 (3)
66 (3)
22 (3)
-------
AK (12)
AQ (12)
AJ (12)
AT (12)

The line indicates the slightly less likely yet possible holdings. There are worse and more unreasonable hands that villain can hold here, but I don't really think we're ahead of much.

When you bet/fold you don't lose 1 bet, you lose 11 bets.

Exaggerated, but you get the point. Folding a hand that has a decent chance of being ahead in a big pot is a DISASTER.

[/ QUOTE ]

No one is arguing with this maxim. The question is how often are we ahead here on the river when raised?

Go easy on me I'm new - but you really missing a lot of value ?
The way I see it the only hands you beat that will call are 7's and 9's - he can't have the other mid pairs because he would have trips. He is not going to call with a busted flush or straight or over cards.
You will get raised by an A or straight, and called by a bigger pair.

I guess I would rather gain some hand info with the check/call over the bet/fold - and I hate the bet/call line he took (of course).

[/ QUOTE ]

what about all hands that contain an 8 or 6 or 2, or 33

True - but I just don't think he had of those hands - if he had paired an 8,6,2 it probably has an Ace with it. (I probably should have not posted the river action...)

Maybe that is one of MY big problems - It kills me to bet/fold a river with a decent pot. Maybe I'm losing a few BB's that I should be betting on the river.

88 (3) Wouldn't he raise the turn with this and other sets?

AK (12) Wouldn't he raise PF with this and AQ?
AQ (12)
AJ (12)
AT (12)

Shouldn't we also have the possibility of 8x here at the turn? Seems to me that is a real possibility at the turn. What about 99? The following are perhaps unreasonable given the flop and turn action, but what about even 77 or 6x?

very good point. Its too easy for posters (myself included) to be swayed by the action that was posted.

Try to do that next time.

If I checked this river it would be with the intention of folding. That may be the best line. Bet/fold is default.
