Esteemed Poker experts,
In a no-limit holdem game, is there ever a time when the button doesn't move? I know when someone gets knocked out, there may or may not be a blind for the next hand. But I am unsure about the button. Thanks for any answer you can provide, I super appreciate it. |

Eh, I guess it depends on what you mean by move. Let's say we have 5 players, conveniently named One through Five. Five has the button with One in the small blind and Two in the big blind. Player One in the small blind busts out. Player Three is now the big blind, Player Two is the small blind. Player Five is acting last again so he effectively has the button two hands in a row though technically I believe you call this second hand a "dead button" hand because it moves to a player who is no longer there.
Does that answer your question? |

There is also a "forward moving button" rule that you will see online and in live tournaments. Under that rule, the button always moves forward.
Online, this means that players sometimes are able to avoid blinds when players bust out. Live, there is often situations using this rule where there will be multiple blinds in play, sometimes posted on the button. I'm not going to try to explain it - badly - here. You might want to do a Google search on "Forward Moving Button" for more. Regards, T |
